中芯国际是纯商业性集成电路代工厂，提供0.35微米到0.13微米制程工艺设计和制造服务。
中芯国际成立于2000年，公司总部位于中国上海，拥有三座芯片代工厂，包括一座后段铜制程代工厂。此外，中芯已收购其第四座位于天津的8英寸芯片代工厂，称之为“七厂”。同时中芯在北京的12英寸厂已在2004年七月开始投产。
Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC"; NYSE: SMI; SEHK: 981) is one of the leading semiconductor foundries in the world and the largest and most advanced foundry in Mainland China, providing integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing service at 0.35 micron to 65 nanometer and finer line technologies. Headquartered in Shanghai, China, SMIC has a 300-millimeter wafer fabrication facility (fab) under pilot production and three 200-millimeter wafer fabs in its Shanghai mega-fab, two 300-millimeter wafer fabs in its Beijing mega-fab, a 200-millimeter wafer fab in Tianjin, and an assembly and testing facility in Chengdu. SMIC also has customer service and marketing offices in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and a representative office in Hong Kong. In addition, SMIC manages and operates a 200-millimeter wafer fab in Chengdu owned by Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation and a 300-millimeter wafer fab under construction in Wuhan owned by Wuhan Xinxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation.
